To some the American flag is just a pretty piece of fabric In it they see no patriotic magic Nothing to rally around that's tragic Unable to see its dearly bought values wholly democratic
They see only simple stars and stripes Not a standard which led America into 100 fights To defend the helpless and protecting their rights Dispelling the darkness and restoring the light
Carried into war by strong American hands At this moment borne across far away desert sands As our troops chase Bin Laden and the Taliban Who have spread their repressive rule throughout the land
Our flag by some called Old Glory If it could speak, just imagine the stories Telling of hard times even when doing poorly Let's thank God for it because we've missed it sorely
Designed by God to bind up the wounds of this nation Both inside and outside for our preservation Today raised high to ward off terrorist devastation Overshadowing this evil infestation
Symbolizing our unity in the face of great adversity Forged together even though we have endless diversity That we might not fall prey to fear's uncertainty Filled with God's peace and its unfailing certainty
A flag that until 9/11 lay neatly folded in our attics Seldom used because we might appear to dramatic Perhaps even leaning toward becoming a real fanatic But that's nothing less than hype and static
But since then there's been a tremendous change As we embrace our nation pain Which upon us unexpectedly came Leaving America stronger, but never quite the same.
